Rock and Clay Wines

Chardonnay

About this wine

Clear with bright brassy color. Ripe tropical fruit aromas with citrus and cream notes. Rich pear/apple flavors and hints of butter, balanced with tart, persistent lemony finish. Namesake Vineyard lies in the famed Carneros area. Afternoon breezes between San Pablo Bay and Stage Gulch moderate the temperature and produce a wine with bright citrus notes and stone fruit minerality. The 25+ year old vines include multiple Chardonnay clones, sustainable cultivated on Haire clay and loam soil. Lightly oaked, the wine is reminiscent of those in southern Burgundy. Each spring, flocks of western meadowlarks descend to enjoy the safety of our pesticide-free area. We call our vineyard and wine Namesake in honor of these beautiful birds. Gold, 91 points from 2020 Sunset Magazine International Wine Competition
