2016 Keep Carignane

Evangelho Vineyard Old Vine Carignane

About this wine

From the Evangelho Vineyard, 140 year old, head trained & dry farmed vineyard in Contra Costa, quite possibly the oldest Carignane in the world due to the silica in it’s soil making it impermeable to phylloxera. 100% whole cluster, slightly carbonic, aged in neutral oak for 6 months. This is a lighter reflection of the varietal than our previous year, rose petals and bramble fruit on the nose, medium bodied, long dusty tannins. 14% alc. PH 3.65

Love Notes and High Praise

You can smell the lush dark fruits as soon as you dip your nose into the glass and you know this is going to b a rich and juicy little number. The wine delivers on that promise ten times over! Big blackcurrants, dark ripe plums, and a very warm and supple body. The Keep Carignan is a rare gem in the crown of the legendary Evangelho Vineyard.

Keep Wines

Winemakers Jack Roberts (former Matthiasson Wines Assistant Winemaker) and Johanna Jensen (Scholium Project and Broc Cellars allumn) have come together to create wines influenced by the old world with less ripe fruit, minimal manipulation and great ageability. In the vigneron tradition, they do much of the work themselves from vineyard to bottling.
