2018 Shining Star Blanc

White Rhone Blend

About this wine

Our 2018 Shining Star Blanc is a luminous blend of the vineyard's white Rhône varietals, Roussanne, Marsanne, and Viognier. Vibrant tropical and citrus aromas swirl with luscious delight over the light-medium bodies palate, culminating in a bright, scintillating finish. Early morning handpicks were immediately pressed while the grapes were still cold, preserving the freshness and fruit intensity. The wine was then cold-fermented in stainless steel with limited exposure to oxygen, retaining the subtle nuances of the crisp fruit and high-tone esters. Malolactic fermentation was inhibited further preserving the aromatics and fresh acidity of the wine. (Composition: 50% Roussanne / 37.5% Marsanne / 12.5% Viognier) -- AWARDS: GOLD MEDAL: 2019 Los Angeles International Wine Competition / SILVER MEDAL: 2020 Toast of the Coast International Wine Competition / BRONZE MEDAL - 2021 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition / BRONZE MEDAL: 2019 OC Wine Society Competition

Meet the Winemaker

Erick Allen

Winemaker

Ascension Cellars

Erick Allen began his winemaking career in 1991, after a two-month long trip to France and to Italy. A love of Châteauneuf-du-Papes wines from the Rhône wine region in Southern France’s and Chianti wines from Tuscany framed his future. Upon Erick’s return he was telling a friend about his new found wine muse when she said, “if you love Rhône wines you should visit Paso Robles in California’s central coast where Rhône varietals thrive”. At that moment the die was cast.
