Catman Cellars produces wines sustainably made as true Oregon wines using regional fruit. We have won many awards for excellence in numerous wine competitions, including a number of international competitions. We specialize in producing classic European varietals, hard to find as locally made wines, which is a differentiator for us that our customers appreciate. We also maintain an active donations program using our wines to raise funds for a variety of community service organizations. We produce our wines using traditional processing and oak barrel aging practices, always with local/regional fruit that is processed fresh the day it is harvested. By gaining recognition in international as well as regional wine competitions, we are in our own modest way enhancing the recognition of Oregon's growing stature as a producer of a broad variety of internationally competitive wines.
Meet the Winemaker
What’s in a Name?
“When I first began making wine with my partners, a former colleague and his wife, their daughters would often hang
around the winery,” explains Ted. “One day, one of the daughters observed that the beloved resident cats seemed to
gravitate to my feet and lap. She started calling me the ‘Catman’ and announced that if we ever went commercial, I would
have to call my brand ‘Catman.’ We all laughed and, of course, I assented. How could I not? As our wines garnered more
medals and positive reviews, we decided we should indeed start selling our wine commercially. At that point, I had a choice
between selecting a more traditional oenological brand name or honoring the pledge I’d made, however casually, to a
delightful child. I was compelled to keep my promise.”
